As part of FLAD’s efforts to promote the internationalization of Portuguese higher education, FLAD is participating this week in the world’s largest education fair, NAFSA 2023 Annual Conference and Expo, in Washington DC.

This initiative, carried out in coordination with tAgência Nacional Erasmus+ Educação e Formação and the Fulbright Portugal Commission and the Luso-American Development Foundation, takes place from May 30 to June 2, 2023, and will bring together a delegation of 24 Portuguese higher education institutions, accompanied by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato and the Portuguese Ambassador to the United States of America, Francisco Duarte Lopes.

As part of the strategy to support the internationalization of higher education institutions, ANE+EF together with Fulbright and FLAD are coordinating the participation of 24 higher education institutions (HEIs) representing Portuguese higher education in a national pavilion.

On May 30th, the Minister of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato, accompanied by the Portuguese Ambassador to the US, Francisco Duarte Lopes, will inaugurate the Study & Research in Portugal pavilion and meet with the Portuguese delegation. Following NAFSA 2023, on June 5 and 6, the Fulbright Portugal Commission, together with the USA-Portugal Campus Initiative partners and the Portuguese Embassy in Washington DC, and with the support of USA Study Abroad/US State Department, organizes the Fulbright Portugal-USA Dialogues.

This initiative aims at discussing and opening new opportunities for exchange of students, professors and researchers between Portugal and the United States, and will include the Portugal/USA Exchange and Mobility in Higher Education and Science seminar, at the Portuguese Embassy in DC, followed by visits by the Portuguese delegation to American University, Marymount University, University of Maryland Baltimore County and George Mason University.

In this context of promoting the internationalization of Portuguese higher education, FLAD is launching new edition of the UP Higher Education 2024 Program, an innovative program with a funding line of up to 100 thousand Euros so that Portuguese higher education institutions can develop partnership projects with American universities, an opportunity that may be useful for the different contacts that will be established during the NAFSA.

The UP Higher Education Program is open to any Portuguese higher education institution, public or private, in any area of knowledge and at any level of education.
