FLAD, in partnership with the National Library of Portugal (BNP), launches the 2021 edition of the short-term research grant program.

This program aims to stimulate knowledge of Portuguese culture in the US, as well as to increase scientific and cultural cooperation and exchange between the two countries. The FLAD-BNP grant is directed to researchers affiliated with higher education institutions or research centers in the United States and aims to support research on topics related to Portuguese history, culture and language, based on the collections of the National Library of Portugal (BNP).

The grants have a minimum duration of one month and a maximum duration of three months and must begin until December of 2021.

The amount of support is 1,400 euros per month, and may additionally include the payment of the round trip up to a maximum of 750 euros, subject to proof of payment.

Each candidate must include in the application:

  • Application form available here;
  • Curriculum vitae of the candidate;
  • Description of the plan of studies to be conducted at BNP and how it intersects with the project in which the candidate is integrated;
  • A document certifying the affiliation to the University or Institute with which the candidate is associated;
  • Recommendation letters that might be of interest for the assessment of the application.

Applications must be sent in Portuguese and by email to bolsas@bnportugal.gov.pt  until April 15th, 2021.

Once submitted, applications are evaluated by a joint committee constituted by representatives of BNP and FLAD.

Applicants will be notified via email of the results by April 30th, 2021.
