FLAD, in partnership with the National Library of Portugal (BNP), launches the 2022 edition of the short-term research scholarship program.

This program aims to stimulate knowledge of Portuguese culture in the USA, as well as to increase scientific and cultural cooperation and exchange between the two countries. The FLAD-BNP grant is open to researchers affiliated with higher education institutions or research centers in the United States and aims to support research on topics related to portuguese history, culture and language, based on the collections of the National Library of Portugal (BNP).

BNP and FLAD intend to welcome researchers to provide them with a productive stay in Portugal, giving them the means they need to develop their work and financing travel and stay.

Scholarships are at least one month and maximum of three months and must be started by December 2022.

The amount of the support is 1,400 euros per month, and may also include the payment of the round trip up to a maximum of 750 euros, subject to proof of expenditure.

Each candidate must include in the application:

  • Application form, duly completed;
  • Curriculum vitae of the candidate;
  • Description of the plan of studies to be conducted at DGLAB-ANTT and how it intersects with the project in which the candidate is integrated;
  • Document proving the link to the University or Institution to which the candidate is associated;
  • Abonatory credentials of the project and that are of interest for the assessment of the application.

Applications must be sent in Portuguese and by email to bolsas@bnportugal.gov.pt by April 17, 2022.

Once submitted, applications are assessed by a joint committee of representatives of the National Library of Portugal and FLAD.

Applicants will be notified via email of the result by April 29, 2022.
