The first edition of the Fulbright research grant with the support of FLAD has come to an end for the academic year of 2020/2021.

The Selection Committee, composed of members of the Fulbright Commission Governing Board and with the participation of one FLAD representative, has appointed four candidates from various scientific fields to this first edition of the open call:

  • Catarina Caria of International Relations;
  • Egídio Carreira of Political Science;
  • Joana Bordalo Fernandes of Communication of Science;
  • Rui Martim Salgado of Mechanical Engineering.

Congratulations to the four new Fulbright/FLAD fellows, who will begin their research programs in the United States as early as January 2021, respectively, at Virginia University, the University of California, Berkeley,the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and also at Purdue University in the State of Indiana.

The Fulbright Commission and FLAD are proud of the results, the first to stem from this partnership between the two institutions and which is intended to support graduate students in Portuguese universities that have planned, as part of their curricular plan, the completion of a period of research at a U.S. university or research center, during a period of 4 months.

If you didn’t apply for this edition, we have good news, a new edition of this open call is expected for the academic year of 2021/2022.

About the application:

The necessary requirements:

  • Have Portuguese nationality.
  • Have not previously benefited from a Fulbright Program grant.
  • You have not resided in the USA for a period of 5 years or more in the 6 years prior to the date of the open call.
  • Don’t possess dual nationality, Portuguese, and North-American.
  • Don’t have a residence permit (green card) in the USA.
  • Do not have a valid U.S. visa between the time of the grant open call and the start of your stay in the U.S.
  • To be a graduate student in a Portuguese higher education institution.

Applicants that meet these conditions must also submit an affiliation letter, that is, a letter of acceptance by the American host institution, three letters of recommendation, the diploma or certificate of grades of the completed academic degrees and proof of agreement with the project by the coordinator/ director of the Graduate’s or the advisor of the Graduate’s project of the candidate, if it already exists.
