Grant to conduct research internships in the U.S. for doctoral candidates from Portuguese institutions

In order to contribute to the strengthening of the Portuguese academic and scientific community, FLAD awards grants to doctoral candidates from Portuguese institutions to develop research internship programs in scientific and academic institutions in the United States.

The internships will have an equal or superior duration of 4 months.

These internships should focus on innovative scientific or technological subjects, while also contributing to a greater alignment between Portuguese and American institutions in the hope of bolstering the knowledge network shared by the two counties and thus facilitating the creation of institutional partnerships.

FLAD awards a grant up to a maximum of €1.500/month.

Applications

Individual applications will be accepted according to the following requirements:

• Portuguese nationality or resident in Portugal;
• PhD student of a Portuguese higher education institution and/or research centers;
• Internship plan;
• Letter of reference from the Portuguese institution to which you are bound;
• Letter of acceptance from the US institution, mentioning period of stay;
• Detailed budget of expected costs and sources of funding applied to finance this internship.

Deadlines – 2021 Open Call 

Internships starting between January 1 and June 30, 2021:

• Applications: until October 31, 2020.
• Results: until December 31, 2020.

Internships starting between July 1 and December 31, 2021:

• Applications: until April 30, 2021.
• Results: until June 30, 2021.
