Portugalia Marketplace is a Portuguese gourmet market in Fall River, Massachusetts, managed by the Portuguese-American Michael Benevides.

A successful case of offering Portuguese products in the United States, the Portugalia Marketplace doesn’t just attract interest from the Portuguese. Many curious Americans pass through Fall River to see and experience the best that is produced and consumed in Portugal.

If the Portuguese gastronomy – which includes fish, canned foods, cheeses, sausages, olive oil, and many others – occupies much of the space of this market, there is also room for other products. At Portugalia Marketplace you will find products such as Portuguese ceramics, textiles, and traditional soaps, making this market a true embassy that brings Portuguese traditions and culture to North-American families.

Michael Benevides and his father, Fernando Benevides, inaugurated Portugalia Marketplace six years ago. In October of 2019, Saveur considered it to be the best Portuguese market in America, a recognition of the work, and of the high-quality products available at the market.

On the 17th of September of 2019, FLAD’s President, Rita Faden, visited Portugalia Marketplace and recognized the market as an important symbol of the Portuguese diaspora in the USA.

Also, in October of 2019, Fernando and Michael Benevides were awarded for their entrepreneurial work with the “Leadership in Business” award at the 23rd PALCUS Leadership Awards Gala, which took place on the 12th of October of 2019, in Sacramento, California.
