Pier Kids questions the meaning of community among black LGBT kids in high risk situations. The film centers around a gallery of characters, among whom are Casper, a young homeless kid attracted to transsexuals; Desean, who fearlessly questions how to best escape homelessness and Krystal, who takes to the dance floor as a form of survival. Their common threads converge in the distancing (at times expulsion) from their blood relatives and taking refuge in familial communities or substitute families.
