Applications for the FLAD/Saab Visiting Professorship at the University of Massachusetts Lowell are now open. Portuguese professores in the academics areas of History, Political Science, or Economics can now apply for the Spring Semester 2023.

The Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) and the Saab Center for Portuguese Studies at the University of Massachusetts Lowell College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences announce the first year of the FLAD/Saab Visiting Professorship in Portuguese Studies Program, a three-year collaboration that sponsors a one-semester a year, open-rank, Visiting Professor of Portuguese Studies at UMass Lowell. The program is open to Portuguese Academics presently teaching at a university in Portugal or abroad.

The program contributes a Portuguese academic perspective to the curriculum of the College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and, more specifically, supports the Portuguese Studies Program at UMass Lowell and the mission of the Saab Center for Portuguese Studies. The program further enhances the University’s relationship with the regional Portuguese-American community.

For the first year of the program (Spring Semester 2023), we seek a professor in the academic areas of History, Political Science, or Economics. The Visiting Professor will teach up to two courses in English and deliver one or more public lectures in their area of expertise. The program provides for a competitive one-semester salary stipend.

To be considered, applicants should send a letter of interest, a curriculum vitae, and two potential course topics via email to Prof. Frank F. Sousa, director of the Saab Center for Portuguese Studies, at frank_sousa@uml.edu. The deadline for applications is Friday, August 12, 2022. Three letters of reference will eventually be requested of the finalists for the position.
