Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was born and raised in Nigeria. At the age of 19, she headed to the USA to continue her studies, having graduated in Communication and Political Science at Eastern Connecticut State University. Her academic curriculum also includes two master’s degrees and several honorary doctorates awarded by institutions such as Georgetown University, the University of Edinburgh, Northwestern University, among others. She is currently a recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship, splitting her time between the U.S. and Nigeria.

The writer has her work translated into more than 55 languages. She is the author of the novels The Color of Hibiscus, which won the Commonwealth Writers Prize; Half a Yellow Sun, distinguished with the “Winner of Winners” of the Women’s Prize for Fiction, and Americanah, awarded with the National Book Critics Circle Award. She is also the author of the collection of short stories The Thing Around Your Neck and the essays We Must All Be Feminists and Dear Ijeawele – How to Educate for Feminism. Her most recent works are an essay on the loss of her father, Notes on Mourning; and Mama’s Handkerchief, a children’s book written under the pseudonym Nwa Grace James.

Inventário de Sonhos is the new book, released this year (published in Portugal by Dom Quixote), and which marks Adichie’s return to novels 12 years after she published Americanah. The work tells us the story of four women through their loves, fears and ambitions, allowing us to reflect on the choices we make and those imposed on us, on mothers and daughters, on our world and that of others.

Chimamanda Adichie will be talking about her work with PÚBLICO journalist Isabel Lucas on May 14, at 6:30 pm, in the FLAD Auditorium, at Rua do Sacramento à Lapa, 21, in Lisbon.

The session is subject to registration through this link.
