Since this Monday, Portugal is now part of the Transatlantic Periscope, an international platform that aggregates information, analysis and data that allow us to assess the state and evolution of the relationship between the United States and 16 European countries. This is a project of the Bertelsmann Foundation, to which FLAD is associated in Portugal.
The Transatlantic Periscope is an interactive multimedia tool that aggregates expert commentary and high-quality media coverage, with official documents and quantitative data, which allows an assessment of the relationship between the US and the countries of the European Union and the UK. This platform also has a regular assessment by a panel of Portuguese experts on the state of the relationship between Portugal and the United States.
The goal is for researchers, students, journalists, diplomats and other policy makers to be able to consult information from credible sources, all in the same space, contributing to greater knowledge, whether for public debate, research production or decision-making. Transatlantic Periscope uses artificial intelligence systems to identify content, using a set of keywords and geopolitical concepts.
The content gathered is then checked by experts in the field, who decide whether or not the articles should be published. With the inclusion of Portugal, there are 16 countries that are part of the Transatlantic Periscope, of which 15 are member states of the European Union, to which the United Kingdom is added.
The Bertelsmann Foundation intends to extend this project to the other member states.
The access to this platform is free and can be done through the transatlanticperiscope.org page or FLAD’s website.
