Applications are closed for the third edition of FLAD’s/AiR 351 Grant. So far there have been 5 artists hosted by AiR 351 under this partnership: Joddy Wood (2020), João Enxuto & Erica Love (2020), Ellie Ga (2019) and Nicholas Knight (2019).

The two grants are intended for US-based/American artists and will cover a period of 4 months during 2021 at the AiR 351 residencies (exact dates to be settled between AiR 351 and the applicant). United States-based artists at any stage of practice are invited to apply. Exception: current or past residents at AiR 351.

AiR 351 is an independent international visual arts residency program located in Cascais, Lisbon region (Portugal). The AiR 351 team works individually with each resident in a supportive environment, providing curatorial and technical assistance on a regular basis. Through institutional partnerships, AiR’s activities cover a variety of contexts such as museums, art collections and art schools. Given the current pandemic context and depending on its evolution, necessary adjustments might have to be taken into consideration namely regarding the public programs and visits to the residency. All sanitary measures issued by the government for this type of organization have been implemented and incorporated into the AiR 351 regulations.

Program

The program includes access to an individual studio and to the communal spaces at AiR 351’s headquarters. AiR 351 also involves residents in its general activities program such as:

  • Integration into the local artistic community;
  • Technical and curatorial assistance;
  • Possibility of working within the AiR 351 partners network (namely art schools workshops);
  • Studio visits;
  • Open studios and public presentations, when possible.

FLAD/AiR 351 grants offer a monthly allowance of 1150 euros for a total period of 4 months. That amount should cover living expenses including accommodation, travel expenses, and health and/or accident insurance during the grant’s timeframe. Grant recipients are exempt from paying residency fees to AiR 351, once these are supported by FLAD.

The AiR 351 team will do everything possible to help the grantee find suitable accommodation.
