The Cathedral

The film follows Jesse Damrosch´s life , from his birth in 1987 until he goes to college at twenty years old. Some family dramas, such as his uncle’s death from AIDS related complications, his tense relationship with his dad, the open hostility between his mom and his aunt, incapable of reconciling even during his maternal grandmother´s funeral, are accented by historic events such as the World Trade Center bombing attempt in 1993 or George W Bush’s presidency in the early 2000s. Ricky D’Ambrose deliberately distances himself from the traditional narrative form, in favor of exploring his personal memories without sentimentality, through a collage of laboriously composed portraits.
