FLAD, in partnership with Direção-Geral do Livro, Arquivos e Bibliotecas – Arquivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo (DGLAB-ANTT), launches the 2026 edition of short-term research grants, with the aim of supporting the promotion of the Portuguese language and culture in the USA.
This program is aimed at students, teachers and researchers from universities and/or research centers in the United States, who are interested in studying the collections and documentary collections of the National Archive of Torre do Tombo, with a view to developing projects in the field of archival sciences, history, or Portuguese culture and language.
The scholarships must be carried out during the 2026 calendar year, with a start date no later than December 2026.
The planned support is 1,400 euros per month, plus an additional 750 euros to subsidise travel-related costs.
Each candidate must include in the application:
- Application form, duly completed, available here;
- Curriculum vitae of the candidate;
- Brief biographical note on the candidate;
- Description of the study plan and the project it is part of;
- A document certifying the affiliation to the University or Institute with which the candidate is associated;
- Credentials that support the project and that are of interest for the appraisal of the application.
Applications must be sent in Portuguese by email to dsieq@dglab.gov.pt by March 1, 2026.
Applications will be evaluated by a jury made up of representatives from Torre do Tombo and FLAD. Candidates will be notified via email of the result by March 31, 2026.
