Colson Whitehead will be the first guest author of Meet the Author, a FLAD initiative that will hold monthly meetings with reference American writers, starting september 27th. The goal is to provide Portuguese readers with close contact with some of the most respected writers in the USA.

From september 27th, FLAD receives every month an American author of reference for a meeting with Portuguese readers. The first guest is Colson Whitehead, winner of two Pulitzer Prizes for the books “The Underground Road” and “The Nickel Boys”, both edited in Portugal by Alfaguara.

In addition to Whitehead, other writers already confirmed are Anthony Marra (“The Tsar of Love and Techno”, Teorema), Joshua Yaffa (“Between Two Fires”, Relógio D’Água), Hanya Yanagihara (“A Little Life”, not yet published in Portugal), Valeria Luiselli (“Lost Children Archive”, not yet published in Portugal) and Brit Bennett (“The Other Half”, Alfaguara), among others.

“We will bring to Portugal great authors of fiction and non-fiction, with whom we can better understand the themes that cross american society today. It’s an excellent opportunity to get to know new paths in American literature and see where they lead us,” explains Rita Faden, president of FLAD.

The sessions will take place once a month in the FLAD auditorium in Lisbon. The invited authors will be interviewed by journalist Isabel Lucas, also author of “Journey to the American Dream” (Tinta da China), in which she seeks to understand America through books.

The first meeting with Colson Whitehead is on September 27th at 6:00 pm. Admission is free and open to the general public upon confirmation of presence for fladport@flad.pt.
