FLAD and Georgetown University launched a call for the position of Visiting Professor in the fields of Political Science and International Relations for the fall semester of 2022. See below how to apply.

Main goal

FLAD and the Department of Government of Georgetown University (Washington, D.C., USA) seek a Visiting Professor to teach a course for one semester, in English, on a topic in the field of International Relations and/or Political Science related to contemporary Portugal in the context of transatlantic relations and global politics. Research on related topics may also be taken into account in the selection process.

The final decision on the subject to be taught will be made throught agreement between Georgetown University and the selected candidate.

Applicants must also follow and collaborate with FLAD’s work in Washington D.C., whether at that University or in the relationship with institutions based in the US capital, including think tanks, foundations, other universities, and different local contacts.

Period

A Visiting Professor will be chosen for the following academic semester:

  • Fall Semester (August-December) 2022

Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Have completed a PhD;
  • Have published research within his/hers academic field;
  • Have teaching experience in English.

You will need to submit the following documents:

  • Motivation letter;
  • CV in Portuguese and in English;
  • Proposal of the course syllabus in English;
  • Copy of the PhD certificate;
  • Two letters of recommendation from professionals from the academic world (research and/or teaching).

Only applications submitted through this form will be considered.

The application period will run from October 7 to November 20, 2021.

Selection

Applications will be reviewed by the following selection committee:

  • Rita Faden, President of FLAD;
  • Nuno Garoupa, Professor at George Mason University;
  • Nuno Severiano Teixeira, Professor at NOVA University of Lisbon.

For a better assessment, short-listed applicants will be interviewed.

Funding

FLAD will award a USD 5,500/montht grant to the selected candidate, which includes health insurance and round trip.
