The Board of Trustees of the Luso-American Development Foundation decided today to appoint Dr. Carlos Henrique da Costa Neves to join the Executive Board, chaired by José Manuel Durão Barroso since January 15, 2026.
Carlos Costa Neves was born in Angra do Heroísmo on 16-6-1954, has a degree in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and throughout his life has held several positions in regional and national politics.
He was Regional Director of Social Security in the Autonomous Region of the Azores (1978-1981); member of the Regional Government of the Azores (1981-1992); Chairman of the Board of Directors of SATA-Air Açores (1992-1994); Member of the European Parliament (1994-2002); State Secretary for European Affairs (2002-2004); Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (2004-2005); Minister for Parliamentary Affairs (October 2015); Member of the Assembly of the Republic (2009-2018); Secretary General of the Government (from January 2025 to the present).
