Applications are open for Visiting Professor in the areas of Criminology, Film Studies, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Luso-American Studies or Sociology/Anthropology at UMass Lowell, during the spring semester 2027. Until May 7, professors of Portuguese nationality teaching in higher education institutions in Portugal or abroad can apply.

The Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) and the Saab Center for Portuguese Studies at the University of Massachusetts Lowell – College of Fine Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, launch a new edition of the fellowship aimed at selecting a Visiting Professor at UMass Lowell – Portuguese Studies, during the spring 2027 semester. This program is a three-year collaboration that sponsors a one-semester a year, open-rank, Visiting Professor of Portuguese Studies at UMass Lowell. The program is open to Portuguese Academics presently teaching at a university in Portugal or abroad.

The program aims to contribute to the curriculum of this Faculty by reinforcing the Portuguese academic perspective and, more specifically, to support the Portuguese Studies Program at UMass Lowell, and the mission of the Saab Center for Portuguese Studies. In a broader dimension, this program aims to strengthen the University’s relationship with the Portuguese-American community present in the region.

For this edition, a vacancy is open in the academic areas of Criminology, Film Studies, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Luso-American Studies or Sociology/Anthropology. The Visiting Professor will teach up to two subjects, in English, and give one or more public lectures in his/her area of specialization. The scholarship provides for the payment of a salary during one semester.

  • Motivation letter;
  • CV;
  • Two of Syllabi’s proposals for potential teaching chairs;
  • Names and contact details of three references will be requested during the application process.
