The 2nd edition of Fulbright’s research grant with the support of FLAD for the academic year of 2021/2022 has come to an end.
The Selection Committee, composed of members of the Board of Directors of the Fulbright Commission Portugal and with the participation of a representative from FLAD, appointed four candidates from various scientific fields for this second edition of the open call:
- Clara Marques, Architecture & Urbanism, Universidade de Lisboa, Johns Hopkins University (Maryland)
- José Cordeiro, Mathematics, Universidade de Lisboa, Harvard University (Massachusetts)
- Bruna Coelho, Social Anthropology, Universidade de Coimbra, New York University (New York)
- Rafael Cordeiro, Computer Engineering, Universidade de Lisboa (IST), Carnegie Mellon University (Pennsylvania)
Congratulations to the four new Fulbright/FLAD fellows, who will start their research programs in the United States as early as October of 2021.
This partnership between Fulbright Portugal and FLAD is designed to support master’s students at Portuguese universities who have planned, within the framework of their coursework, for a period of research at a U.S. university or research center for a period of 4 months.
If you have not applied for this edition, we have good news, we expect a new edition of this open call for the academic year of 2022/2023.

About the application:
The necessary requirements:
- Have Portuguese nationality.
- Have not previously benefited from a Fulbright Program grant.
- Have not resided in the USA for a period of 5 years or more in the 6 years prior to the date of the open call.
- Don’t possess dual nationality, Portuguese and North-American.
- Don’t have a residence permit (green card) in the USA.
- Don’t have a valid U.S. visa between the time of the grant open call and the start of your stay in the U.S.
- To be a graduate student in a Portuguese higher education institution.
Applicants that meet these conditions must also submit an affiliation letter, that is, a letter of acceptance by the American host institution, three letters of recommendation, the diploma or certificate of grades of the completed academic degrees, and proof of agreement with the project by the coordinator/ director of the Master’s degree or the advisor of the Master’s project of the candidate, if it already exists.
