The Luso-American Development Foundation announces that the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr. Nuno Morais Sarmento, has submitted his resignation, which was accepted, with effect from January 5th
In the last 16 months at the head of the Foundation, he carried out a vast internal reorganization, seeking, on the one hand, to transform FLAD into an open house that is closer to citizens; and on the other hand, preparing it for the new times and technological advances, in particular the challenges posed by artificial intelligence.
During the year 2025, Dr. Nuno Morais Sarmento led the celebrations of FLAD’s 40th anniversary, which ended with a memorable show at Carnegie Hall, in New York, bringing together in an unprecedented way a large part of the Portuguese-descendant community.
The next few years, especially the year 2026, in which FLAD celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Independence of the United States of America, will be very demanding, requiring a high number of long-range trips, such as trips to the USA.
In view of all the above, and the demand of the position, Dr. Nuno Morais Sarmento understood that he could not at this time guarantee the personal and health conditions necessary for its complete realization. For this reason, the President of FLAD asked to cease his current functions.
