After its first edition on the island of São Miguel in the Azores, the Visual Arts Course is back this year in Loulé. For 9 weeks, young artists in the fields of drawing, painting and installation/sculpture will have the opportunity to develop individual work under the guidance of guest teachers. The aim is to stimulate critical thinking, individual imagination and collaborative work.
The 2nd edition of the Visual Arts Course has already started in Loulé, following the 1st edition that took place on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores, in 2022. For nine weeks, from September 15 to November 19, a group of six artists aged between 25 and 30 with diverse and transdisciplinary artistic practices in the exercise of contemporary thinking will have the opportunity to learn from and work with internationally renowned artists.
The group of artists will have access to a complete study program with the participation of Gabriela Albergaria, Rommulo Conceição, Sonja Thomsen, Demián Flores, Claire Pentecost and Amy Yoes, as well as ongoing mentoring from artist Catarina Botelho and producer Ana Rostron.
The Visual Arts Course is developed in partnership with Loulé City Council and culminates in an exhibition at the Municipal Galleries of the Convento do Espírito Santo, which opens on November 17, 2023, at 5pm.
The selected artists received a €400 production grant for the works they produce during the Course. As part of the training, there will also be a series of three compulsory sessions open to the general public. Find out about the Program of Public Activities planned for the course:
