To mark the 250th anniversary of the Independence of the United States, FLAD launches a new edition of the POV – Point of View article contest, aimed at young people in Portugal interested in American history and politics.
The contest runs from February 17 to May 10 and invites young people between the ages of 18 and 23 to submit an original article that explores a topic of U.S. domestic or foreign policy, relating it to current political affairs and the 2026 election cycle. The contest aims to make known the perspective of the new generations on the American Revolution and the role of the USA in the contemporary world.
With this initiative, FLAD reinforces its commitment to encourage the study of American politics in Portugal and to support young people with an interest in transatlantic relations, marking a historic date that continues to mark the global democratic debate.
Participation criteria:
- Young people between 18 and 23 years old (at the closing date of the competition)
- Portuguese nationality or residence in Portugal for at least 5 years
- Original article, not previously published
- Text in Portuguese, up to 3,500 characters (with spaces)
- Submission through the online form, accompanied by a CV
Prizes:
- 1st place: 2,000 € and publication of the article in a leading media outlet in Portugal
- 2nd place (ex aequo, two winners): €1,000 for each candidate
