FLAD celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Luso American Legislators’ Dialogue with another great edition of the annual meeting between legislators from the United States of America with Portuguese ancestry and Portuguese personalities from various areas. Year after year, legislators elected at the federal and state levels, from both parties, come to Portugal at the invitation of FLAD to establish ties with political, economic and social leaders of our country.
On July 6 and 7, 22 legislators from various US states will be able to visit Torre do Tombo, the Academy of Sciences and RedBridge (a networking platform between Portuguese and American entrepreneurs). Durão Barroso, António Leitão Amaro, Carlos Moedas, Henrique Leitão, Ana Santos Pinto and Miguel Monjardino, will be the main speakers of the 2026 edition.
The Legislators’ Dialogue allows the creation of a network between legislators from different states who cross paths here and establish contacts in a bipartisan logic. The meeting, which takes place at FLAD in Lisbon, aims to bring together and strengthen relations between these Portuguese-American leaders and Portugal, in order to build bridges and find solutions to common challenges, as well as to continue the path towards a stronger Portuguese-American community that is better able to defend its interests in the US.
The community of Portuguese descent in the United States is one of the oldest, with more than two centuries of history and great diversity, very active in the defense of its historical and cultural heritage and with strong ties to Portugal. Currently, there are 51 legislators elected from among congressmen and state legislators with Portuguese ancestry, spread across the country: from California to Massachusetts, and up to 12 members elected in Hawaii.
