On September 16, at 6:30 p.m., FLAD welcomes writer Claire Messud for another edition of Meet the Author – Meetings with American Writers. This initiative is a partnership with the newspaper PÚBLICO.
Claire Messud is the next guest of the Meet the Author initiative. The fiction and nonfiction author is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and is a recipient of the Guggenheim and Radcliffe Fellowships and the Strauss Living Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. This Strange Eventful History, her most recent novel, was nominated for the Giller Prize and the Booker Prize. She lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with her family.
The American writer also has several award-winning works, including the book The Emperor’s Children, elected Best Book of the Year by the New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Washington Post. His first novel, When the World Was Steady, and his book of short stories, The Hunters, were finalists for the PEN/Faulkner Prize; and his second novel, The Last Life, was voted Best Book of the Year by Publishers Weekly and Editor’s Choice by The Village Voice. All four books were named Notable Books of the Year by the New York Times.
This Strange Eventful History is the new book that arrived in Portugal this year published by ASA. Inspired by the tumultuous lives of Messud’s ancestors, it tells us about the complexity of the Mediterranean soul in the contemporary world. At the origin of its creation are the unforgettable Cassars, a family born on the wrong side of history.
Claire Messud will be talking about her new book and other work with PÚBLICO journalist Isabel Lucas on September 16, at 6:30 pm, at the FLAD Auditorium, at Rua do Sacramento à Lapa, 21, in Lisbon.
The session is subject to registration through this link.
