Love After Love

Russell Harbaugh skillfully, sensitively and masterfully directs this autobiographical family drama about the process of a family mourning the death of their patriarch. The widow, Suzanne (Andie MacDowell), and the adult children, Nicholas (Chris O’Dowd) and Chris (James Adomian), each mourn in their own way, and each family member reacts differently. Nothing in this film seems fake, which is naturally due to a dexterous screenplay, making no concessions to convenience (co-written by Harbaugh and Eric Mendelsohn), and to a cast in a state of grace, headed by MacDowell in one of the highlights of her career.
