The influence of American politics worldwide means that these days are lived with great intensity and anticipation.<\/p>\n<p>But the US electoral system is very particular, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flad.pt\/en\/observador-newsletter-what-are-us-party-national-conventions-for\/\">creating the need to give more information, <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flad.pt\/en\/america-vinte-vinte-a-new-partnership-between-flad-and-tsf\/\">debate the big areas of decision,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flad.pt\/en\/special-us-2020-elections\/\">and better understand their implications.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For this reason, FLAD announces yet another partnership to fulfill this mission of helping to enlighten the public about what is at stake. The partnership between FLAD, SIC, and the weekly Expresso, has four initiatives planned.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;It is important to give information, know, understand, debate, discuss, because, as we all know, the US presidential elections have a great influence around the world. There is a great interest in Portugal, on behalf of the Portuguese, in wanting to know more<\/strong>, hence our interest in joining SIC\/Expresso to hold these debates, and other initiatives that we have been taking over the last few months, with a particular focus in recent weeks for the elections.&#8221; <strong>&#8211; Rita Faden, President of FLAD.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The first of these initiatives takes place already this<strong> Tuesday, October 13th, with a debate on forecasts and polls,<\/strong> a topic that gained special relevance after the 2016 elections, when almost all polls pointed to a clear and comfortable victory for Hillary Clinton, but the winner would eventually be Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>To dissect these results and realize what has failed, or what we do not realize in the numbers presented to us (as well as the impact of the pandemic and the evolution of the economy), we will have two renowned American experts in the field of forecasts and electoral behavior: <a href=\"https:\/\/news.emory.edu\/tags\/expert\/alan_abramowitz\/index.html\">Alan Abramowitz<\/a>, Political Scientist at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emory.edu\/home\/index.html\">Emory University<\/a> in Atlanta; and <a href=\"https:\/\/politicalscience.missouri.edu\/people\/stegmaier\">Mary Stegmaier<\/a>, Political Scientist at <a href=\"https:\/\/truman.missouri.edu\/\">Truman School of Public Affairs,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/missouri.edu\/\">from the University of Missouri.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The debate will be moderated by Pedro Magalh\u00e3es, principal researcher at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ics.ulisboa.pt\/\">the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon,<\/a> also a specialist in these areas, and the journalist David Dinis.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image media=&#8221;91291&#8243; media_width_use_pixel=&#8221;yes&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221; media_width_pixel=&#8221;800&#8243;][vc_column_text]You can href=\"https:\/\/www.flad.pt\">FLAD&#8217;s,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/sicnoticias.pt\/\">SIC Not\u00edcias,<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/expresso.pt\/\">Expresso <\/a>websites at 8 PM and can be viewed and reviewed as many times as you want.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flad.pt\">FLAD<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/sic.pt\/\"> SIC<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/expresso.pt\/\">Expresso<\/a> also provides for another debate with US experts <strong>on October 20th,<\/strong> <strong>interviews with Portuguese-descendants elected in the US
