The first guest is the former Prime Minister and President of the European Commission, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Barroso.<\/p>\n<p>From the day he decided to join the PSD political party, 40 years ago, through contact with the world&#8217;s most notable leaders \u2013 such as George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Angela Merkel \u2013 Jos\u00e9 Manuel Barroso reviewed his history as a politician and ruler, and says that &#8220;The 25th of April 25 of 1974 was one of the happiest days&#8221; of his life: &#8220;I was at Largo do Carmo, I witnessed the fall of the regime.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Jos\u00e9 Manuel Dur\u00e3o Barroso - Atlantic Talks by Atlantic Talks\" width=\"840\" height=\"400\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?visual=true&#038;url=https%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F836413627&#038;show_artwork=true&#038;maxwidth=840&#038;maxheight=1000&#038;dnt=1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Former Portuguese Prime Minister also recalls the two years he lived in the United States in the late 1990s with his wife and children, when he was a Visiting Professor at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgetown.edu\/\">Georgetown University,<\/a>with the support of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flad.pt\">FLAD.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the present and the future, he claims that the political climate shows that Europe must be more independent.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I am sincerely adept of Europe having a strong relationship with the United States. With that said, Europe cannot always be dependent on the United States.
