The Luso-American Development Foundation is already on its fifth edition of the Luso-American Legislators’ Diologue.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This event, that brings together Portuguese-American legislators and Portuguese political leaders, is an operational network of politicians and public figures of Portuguese descent that are proud of their Portuguese origin and represent Portugal’s image in the United States.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The annual event makes it possible to shorten the distance between Portugal and the United States, and to connect Portuguese and Portuguese-American legislators, so as to bring about a deeper understanding of the strategic importance of the Portuguese-American and transatlantic alliance.<\/p>\n

The Luso-American Legislators’ Dialogue thus creates an opportunity to strengthen the bilateral ties between Portugal and the United States and to give voice to Portuguese-American needs,<\/strong> as well as to support the Portuguese-American community in the USA, by taking to their constituents, and to all Americans, Portuguese culture, language and history.<\/p>\n

On May 30 and 31, 2019,<\/strong> FLAD hosted the fifth edition of Legislators’ Dialogue.<\/strong> Besides the recurrent session dedicated to the future of the Portuguese-American communities in the United States, this year’s program addressed a variety of topics, such as science, economic challenges, transatlantic relations, among others. Portuguese current political and economic affairs were also discussed and made known to the Portuguese-American legislators.<\/p>\n

The fifth edition of the Legislators’ Dialogue was attended by members of the U.S. Congress, such as Jim Costa and Lori Trahan, <\/strong>the first Portuguese-American congresswoman. Also present were Diniz Borges,<\/strong> president of the California Portuguese American Coalition (CPAC), and many other elected officials of Portuguese descent.<\/p>\n

From Portugal, were present Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa<\/strong>, the President of the Portuguese Republic, and Vasco Cordeiro, <\/strong>President of the Regional Government of the Azores, as well as the U.S. Ambassador to Portugal, George E.
