See below how to apply for phase two. <\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Why the Atlantic?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The study of the Atlantic is essential to understand very diverse and multidisciplinary areas with an impact on the sustainability of Earth and on our quality of life, from the interaction between oceans, atmosphere, and space, to climate change, natural disasters, and sustainability.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s our goal? Production of technology and promotion of a new generation of Portuguese scientists.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of a strong bet on Science and Technology by FLAD, it is important that this research can develop practical results, such as the creation of engineering and technologies, that promote our understanding and exploration of the Atlantic ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, FLAD aims to provide support and distinguish early-career researchers, thereby promoting a promising new generation of researchers residing in Portugal, always in close cooperation with the main research groups in the USA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key research areas<\/strong> <strong>for the 2020 edition<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sustainable energy systems for islands and isolated areas;<\/li>\n<li>New marine renewable energies;<\/li>\n<li>Sustainable mobility and logistics, in the context of an increasing digital transformation;<\/li>\n<li>Observation\/monitoring methods: low-cost satellite data, advanced sensor systems, artificial intelligence, data science;<\/li>\n<li>Aquatic robots and automated transports that promote Atlantic interactions;<\/li>\n<li>Technologies to make oceans clean and healthy;<\/li>\n<li>Technologies to help the Atlantic region adapt to climate change and natural disasters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Prize<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The prize has a maximum value of 300,000 euros for a maximum duration of 3 years, which corresponds to 100,000\/year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jury<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The evaluation is made by a jury of excellence composed of five elements.<br \/>\nThe scientific committee, which is part of that same jury, is composed of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipma.pt\/pt\/oipma\/quem\/conselho-diretivo\/index-detail.jsp?f=\/pt\/oipma\/quem\/conselho-diretivo\/miguel.miranda.html\"><strong>Professor Miguel Miranda<\/strong><\/a>, Professor at the <a href=\"https:\/\/ciencias.ulisboa.pt\/\">Faculty of Sciences<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ulisboa.pt\/\">University of Lisbon<\/a>, and president of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipma.pt\/pt\/index.html\">IPMA<\/a>. Specialist in Geomagnetism, Marine Geophysics, and Natural Risks, focusing on Tsunamis;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/sigarra.up.pt\/feup\/pt\/func_geral.formview?p_codigo=240020\"><strong>Professor Pedro Camanho<\/strong><\/a>, Professor at the <a href=\"https:\/\/sigarra.up.pt\/feup\/pt\/web_page.inicial\">Faculty of Engineering<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/sigarra.up.pt\/up\/pt\/web_base.gera_pagina?p_pagina=home\">University of Porto<\/a>, president of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inegi.pt\/instituicao\/fct.asp?idm=1&amp;idsubm=10&amp;id=3&amp;LN=\">LAETA<\/a> and guest scientist at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/\">NASA<\/a>.
