{"id":120457,"date":"2026-07-01T18:01:46","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T17:01:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.flad.pt\/flad-distinguishes-young-authors-in-the-pov-point-of-view-2026-contest\/"},"modified":"2026-07-01T18:01:46","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T17:01:46","slug":"flad-distinguishes-young-authors-in-the-pov-point-of-view-2026-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flad.pt\/en\/flad-distinguishes-young-authors-in-the-pov-point-of-view-2026-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"FLAD distinguishes young authors in the POV &#8211; Point of View 2026 contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>FLAD has already selected the winners of the 2026 edition of the POV &#8211; Point of View contest, an initiative that challenged young people between the ages of 18 and 23 to reflect on the history, politics and current affairs of the United States, in the year that marks the 250th anniversary of American Independence.<\/h3>\n<p>Launched in February, the competition sought to learn about the perspectives of new generations on the American Revolution and its influence on contemporary political reality, while encouraging interest in the study of the United States and transatlantic relations.<\/p>\n<p>First place went to Natacha Pernas, 22, who holds a master&#8217;s degree in Political Economy from the University of Amsterdam, for the article &#8220;America hostage to its own legacy&#8221;. The work stood out for the quality of the reflection on how the historical heritage of the United States continues to shape the country&#8217;s political and social challenges. The young author received a prize worth 2 thousand euros and her article was part of a special edition of S\u00c1BADO magazine, published on July 1 with the support of FLAD, fully dedicated to the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the Independence of the United States.  <\/p>\n<p>Two young authors were also distinguished, in second place ex aequo, with a prize worth one thousand euros each:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Afonso Vilan, 21 years old, student of the Degree in International Relations at ISCSP, with the article &#8220;Transatlantic relations between pragmatism and ideology&#8221;;<\/li>\n<li>T\u00e1lia Moniz Santos, 21 years old, student of the Master&#8217;s Degree in Law and Security at NOVA School of Law, with the article &#8220;No one is born an American: he becomes an American&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The three award-winning works reveal different perspectives on the evolution of American society and politics, as well as on their impact on the contemporary international context.<\/p>\n<p>The high quality of the applications received demonstrated the growing interest of young Portuguese people in issues related to the United States and in the political, social and geopolitical transformations that mark the international news.<\/p>\n<p>With the POV &#8211; Point of View contest, FLAD reinforces its commitment to promoting knowledge about the United States in Portugal and encouraging critical thinking and informed debate among new generations.
