As part of the Meet the Author<\/em> initiative, FLAD received the American writer Katie Kitamura<\/span><\/span> for a conversation with journalist Isabel Lucas<\/span><\/span>, in a meeting dedicated to contemporary literature and the issues that cross her work.<\/h3>\n

Internationally recognized for the psychological depth of her writing and the subtle way she explores themes such as identity, intimacy and representation, Katie Kitamura reflected on her literary career and the role of fiction in interpreting the social and emotional dynamics of the present.<\/p>\n

Throughout the conversation moderated by Isabel Lucas, some of the central themes of the author’s work were addressed, including the silent tensions of human relationships, the mechanisms of perception and social performance and the limits between truth and fiction.<\/p>\n

During the session, there was also space to talk about the author’s most recent novel, “Audi\u00e7\u00e3o”, recently published in Portugal by Alfaguara<\/span><\/span>. In the book, Katie Kitamura returns to the territories of emotional ambiguity and identity instability that characterize her writing, accompanying a protagonist confronted with the fragilities of perception, memory and intimate relationships. The work has been widely highlighted by international critics for the precision of the language and the subtle tension that runs through the entire narrative.<\/p>\n

The Meet the Author<\/em> initiative is a FLAD program that promotes meetings between North American authors and the Portuguese public, creating spaces for dialogue around contemporary literature, culture and ideas.
