The competition offers support for a stay of one semester or one year.<\/h3>\n<p>This is a unique opportunity available to Portuguese teachers in one of the most reputable higher education institutions in the United States, and a reference in the areas of Political Science and International Relations. Those selected will have the opportunity to teach for a year or a semester at Georgetown, benefiting from the University&#8217;s resources, developing partnerships and its international curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates can propose a longer stay, of two semesters, if they wish (the final decision will be up to the jury). The subjects of the course to be proposed can be broader, and only require that they fall within the areas of Political Science and International Relations. FLAD will support those chosen with a $5,500 monthly grant, health insurance and round-trip travel.<\/p>\n<p>Applications are open until November 13, 2023.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Selection conditions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The competition aims to select up to two visiting professors in the field of Political Science or International Relations to teach at Georgetown University for one or two semesters of the 2024\/2025 academic year.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The selected teacher will teach one subject per semester;<\/li>\n<li>The final decision on the program of the course(s) to be taught will be the subject of an agreement between FLAD, Georgetown University and the selected candidate;<\/li>\n<li>The selected candidate must actively participate in the academic life of the Department, develop initiatives in Washington, in partnership with FLAD, and collaborate with FLAD&#8217;s work, both at that University and in the relationship with Washington-based institutions, including think tanks, foundations, other universities, and various local contacts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Eligibility criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Portuguese nationality;<\/li>\n<li>Doctor&#8217;s Degree;<\/li>\n<li>Work published in his\/hers academic area;<\/li>\n<li>Teaching experience in English.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Application process<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applications must be submitted using the online form available at this link: <a href=\"https:\/\/flad.secure.force.com\/CandidaturaMain?language=pt_PT\">https:\/\/flad.secure.force.com\/CandidaturaMain?language=pt_PT;<\/a><\/li>\n<li>In the form, candidates must indicate the preference of the length of their stay (one or two semesters), and the final decision is made to the jury.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Documents:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Motivation letter in Portuguese or in English;<\/li>\n<li>CV in Portuguese and in English;<\/li>\n<li>Proposal of curriculum of a discipline in English;<\/li>\n<li>Copy of the PhD certificate;<\/li>\n<li>Two letters of recommendation from professionals from the academic world (research and\/or teaching) in Portuguese or English.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Deadlines and conditions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The application period will run from <strong>September 19 to November 13, 2023.<\/strong><br \/>\nApplications made only through the online form (indicated above).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Selection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Applications will be reviewed by the following selection committee:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rita Faden, President of FLAD;<\/li>\n<li>Nuno Garoupa, Professor at George Mason University;<\/li>\n<li>Nuno Severiano Teixeira, Professor at NOVA University of Lisbon.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For better evaluation of candidates, interviews will be conducted with the best ranked in the curriculum evaluation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Financial Support<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>FLAD will award a USD 5,500\/montht grant to the selected candidate, which includes health insurance and round trip.<\/p>\n<p>See the call for applications &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flad.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/Edital_Concurso-para-Prof.-Visitante-da-FLAD-na-Universidade-de-Georgetown-20242025.pdf\">at this link<\/a> &#8211; for full details of the application process.
