The competition, which is the result of a partnership between FLAD and Brown University, is open for the two semesters of the 2024\/2025 academic year, and is intended to select two Portuguese teachers or residents in Portugal, one for each semester.<\/h3>\n<p>Those selected will have the opportunity to teach a semester-long course in English in the areas of History or Social Sciences (e.g. Sociology, Anthropology or Political Sciences), addressing contemporary Portugal, which may be extended to Portuguese-speaking societies and\/or have an international comparative dimension. The final decision on the topic will result from discussions between Brown&#8217;s Department of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies and the selected candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Two candidates will be selected, one for the fall semester (September to December) 2024 and one for the spring semester (January to May) 2025. The selected candidates will also be expected to follow and collaborate with the dynamics of FLAD, both at that University and in the relationship with other educational institutions and others in the New England region. Applications are open between August 1 and November 1, 2023.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Applications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Application requirements:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be Portuguese or resident in Portugal;<\/li>\n<li>PhD completed at the time of application;<\/li>\n<li>Affiliation to a higher education institution in Portugal and\/or integrated member or collaborator of an R&amp;D unit recognized by FCT &#8211; Funda\u00e7\u00e3o para a Ci\u00eancia e a Tecnologia;<\/li>\n<li>Teaching experience in English at higher education level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Application process:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Applications should be submitted <a href=\"https:\/\/flad.my.salesforce-sites.com\/CandidaturaMain?language=pt_PT\">here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Documentation required (in English):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Letter of motivation;<\/li>\n<li>CV, with papers published in the area and teaching experience;<\/li>\n<li>Copy of the PhD certificate;<\/li>\n<li>Two letters of recommendation from professionals in the academic world (research and\/ or<\/li>\n<li>teaching);<\/li>\n<li>Proposal of the curriculum of the course (syllabus) that the candidate intends to teach<\/li>\n<li>Indication of the desired semester;<\/li>\n<li>Consent under the General Data Protection Regulation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Letters of recommendation may be submitted in Portuguese or English. All other documents must be submitted in English.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Selection process and dates:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The selection panel is composed of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ant\u00f3nio Costa Pinto (Universidade de Lisboa);<\/li>\n<li>Cristiana Bastos (Universidade de Lisboa);<\/li>\n<li>Elsa Henriques (FLAD \u2013 President of the Jury);<\/li>\n<li>On\u00e9simo Teot\u00f3nio Almeida (Brown University).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If the selection board deems it necessary, interviews may be held with the best qualified candidates.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The application period for both semesters will run from August 1 to November 1, 2023.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The results will be communicated by December 15, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Within 90 days of the end of the semester, a report on the work carried out and experience gained must be sent to FLAD. This report should make reference to the number of students who attended the course, curricular and extra-curricular dynamics developed, as well as reference to participation in academic events at Brown and\/or other institutions in the region.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Financial support:<\/span><\/p>\n<p>FLAD will award each successful candidate a grant of \u20ac5,000\/month.
