The 10 finalists for the FLAD Drawing Award 2023 have been chosen. The work of these artists will be exhibited at Drawing Room Lisboa, which will take place between October 25th and 29th at Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes, in Lisbon. The winner will be known on October 28.<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The third edition of the FLAD Drawing Award will reward the best among more than 200 entries received. The choice will be made among the 10 finalists, whose works will be shown in a dedicated exhibition at the Drawing Room Lisbon fair<\/a>, from October 25th to 29th, at Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes.<\/p>\n

The winner will be known on October 28th, at the Drawing Room Lisboa – which is again a partner in this initiative – and will receive a prize money of 20 thousand Euros.<\/p>\n

This award aims to support the production and artistic innovation in Portugal, to recognize the artistic talent in Portugal and to support the promising artists of our country.<\/p>\n

The area of artistic production chosen was the drawing, for its important representation in the Collection of Contemporary Art of FLAD and for constituting an artistic expression of a very intimate relationship with the creator of art. In the last editions of this annual initiative, awards were given to the artist Pedro Tropa<\/a> and the artist Maria Capelo<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Ant\u00f3nio Poppe, Lisbon, 1968<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Visual artist, performer, poet, lives and works in Lisbon. He studied at Ar.Co, in Lisbon, at the Royal College of Arts, London, and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Since 1991 he has presented work in several cultural institutions and has had his drawing and poetry published in several publishing houses.<\/p>\n

Carla Filipe, Vila Nova da Barquinha, 1973<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Carla Filipe lives and works in Porto. Solo exhibitions: “In My own Language i am Independent” , Serralves Museum, 2023; ” Tomorrow there is no art”, Maat, 2019; “from tail to head”, Berardo Museum, 2014. Group exhibitions: “Incerteza viva: “32nd S. Paulo Biennial, 2016; “Mom, Am I Barbarian?” 13th Istanbul Biennial, 2013.<\/p>\n

Cristina Lamas, Lisbon, 1968<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Graduated from Ar.Co (complete syllabus in Drawing and advanced course). She exhibits regularly on the contemporary art circuit. She is represented in several public collections. Of her most recent exhibitions, she highlights “Pororoca” (individual) at Funda\u00e7\u00e3o Carmona e Costa, “Selva” at Brot\u00e9ria, and “Mistif\u00f3rio” at Culturgest.<\/p>\n

Dayana Lucas, Caracas, 1987<\/strong><\/h3>\n

She develops practical research in the area of drawing and sculpture: healing actions and bridges between the inside (body and psyche) and the outside (reality). Co-founder of Oficina Arara from 2010-2017. Member of the SOOPA collective. Founder of ORINOCO, a publisher of books and other artist’s editions.<\/p>\n

Hugo Canoilas, Lisbon, 1977<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Hugo Canoilas lives in Vienna. Individual presentations at CAV and Gulbenkian in 2023, Museu Serralves, MUMOK,in 2022. Group exhibitions at Kunstverein in Hamburg, Salzburger Kunstverein, 30th Bienal de S\u00e3o Paulo, De Appel, and Kunsthalle Wien.Winner of Kapsch Contemporary Art Prize, Austria.<\/p>\n

Joanna Latka, Krakow, 1978<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Joanna Latka devotes herself exclusively to ink drawing, etching, and illustration. The artist has about 40 solo exhibitions and 65 group exhibitions, in Portugal and abroad, and is represented in public and private collections. She was selected for various competitions such as the Amadeu de Souza-Cardoso Award, or the Cerveira Biennial.<\/p>\n

Manuel Caldeira, Oeiras, 1979<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Manuel Caldeira, studied painting at Byam Shaw School of Art and at Ar.Co. He has exhibited regularly since 2006, with highlights including Break a Leg at Rui Freire FA; Vapor2 in Rockaway Beach NY; Spettacolo at JEO Gallery. In 2015 he was a finalist of the EDP New Artists Award.<\/p>\n

Marco Franco, Lisbon, 1972<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Marco Franco, also a musician, has been developing a rigorous practice in the expanded fields of drawing and sculpture. His work is allied with an enigmatic consistency, building a universe of abstract arabesques and imperfect rhythms – based on experimentation, serialization and repetition.<\/p>\n

Paulo Brighenti, Lisbon, 1968<\/strong><\/h3>\n

He lives and works in Lisbon and in the village of Maceira, Torres Vedras. He has been exhibiting since the 1990s. His work has rethought different domains of drawing and painting operativity.<\/p>\n

Pedro Valdez Cardoso, Lisbon, 1974<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Graduated in Performing Arts by Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema and by Curso Avan\u00e7ado de Artes Visuais, Escola de Artes Visuais Maumaus, 2003. He has exhibited regularly since 2001 and is represented in several national and international collections.<\/p>\n
