The first meeting is already on January 19 with John Ikenberry and will discuss the future of the international order.<\/h3>\n<p>At a time of growing external and internal threats to democracy in the transatlantic area, it is important to identify the main challenges and discuss what is at stake in the defense of democratic values. To this end, throughout 2023, FLAD will be promoting a series of conferences entitled Democracy: The Way Ahead, which will bring together leading specialists from both sides of the Atlantic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will be bringing renowned American guests to Portugal to think about and discuss the future of democracy, particularly in the transatlantic framework, authoritarian threats and what we can do as an open and tolerant society to defend it,&#8221; says Rita Faden, President of FLAD.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-102785 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.flad.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Democracy__Mailchimp-1024x617.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.flad.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Democracy__Mailchimp-1024x617.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.flad.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Democracy__Mailchimp-300x181.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.flad.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Democracy__Mailchimp-768x463.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.flad.pt\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Democracy__Mailchimp.jpg 1081w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The first conference is with John Ikenberry, in a conversation moderated by Carlos Gaspar, researcher at IPRI-NOVA, and will have as its theme &#8220;Does the Liberal International Order have a Future?&#8221;. John Ikenberry, considered one of the best scholars in the field of International Relations, is a professor at Princeton University and the author of several publications in journal articles, essays, and books. Ikenberry is also Co-Director of the Princeton Center for International Security Studies and Global Eminence Scholar at Kyung Hee University in Seoul.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The talk with John Ikenberry will be on <\/strong><strong>January 19, at 6pm, in the FLAD auditorium, in Lisbon.
