The exhibition Feast. Fury. Femina. \u2013 Works from FLAD’s Collection presents FLAD’s collection of contemporary art to the Azorean public for the first time. After the unprecedented exhibition in Lisbon, the Arquip\u00e9lago – Centro de Artes Contempor\u00e2neas welcomes 146 works by 66 artists, mostly Portuguese of several generations, between May 20 and September 4.<\/h3>\n

FLAD’s contemporary art collection,<\/a> launched in 1986, consists mostly of works by Portuguese artists and brings together a set of works representative of the Portuguese artistic scene of the 80s, 90s, and beginning of the 21st century, with new acquisitions between the end of 2019 and the year 2020. Composed mostly by drawing, it also integrates painting, photography, and sculpture, and recently added more works by women, as well as works by artists representing the multicultural composition of the country.<\/p>\n

The end of 2019 and the year 2020 mark the resumption of the acquisition of works by FLAD and the cataloguing and treatment of its Contemporary Art Collection, creating a database in collaboration with the company Sistemas do Futuro. On display are more than 25 of these recently acquired works, which fit the concept of transversality that the exhibition intends to show.<\/p>\n

Three axes emerge from the Collection and give rise to this exhibition – Feast. Fury. <\/strong>Femina<\/strong>.<\/strong> \u2013 dialogue and generate idearies: they celebrate the collection, evoke the dimension of performativity inherent to contemporary artistic practices, and highlight the feminine dimension, requiring a renewed look at Art History that has so neglected female artists.<\/p>\n

After the success of the organizing event at MAAT in Lisbon, the exhibition Feast. Fury. Femina. \u2013 Works from FLAD’s Collection now goes to the Azores, for the first time, with 146 works selected by curators Ant\u00f3nio Pinto Ribeiro and Sandra Vieira J\u00fcrgens, from more than 1000 that are part of the collection.<\/p>\n

Parallel programming<\/strong><\/p>\n

The exhibition will be the anchor for an expanded cultural program that FLAD and the Arquip\u00e9lago – Centro de Artes Contempor\u00e2neas will develop over four months on the Island of S\u00e3o Miguel, with the aim of promoting art and culture in the region.<\/p>\n

This program will include guided tours and workshop visits for students from all teaching cycles on the island of S\u00e3o Miguel; drawing workshops with renowned artists, open classes with the curators of the exhibition – Ant\u00f3nio Pinto Ribeiro and Sandra Vieira J\u00fcrgens – ; a summer school for secondary and higher education students, and scholarships were created for this school for students from other islands of the Azores.<\/p>\n
