{"id":101140,"date":"2022-04-26T17:30:44","date_gmt":"2022-04-26T16:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.flad.pt\/flad-science-award-atlantic-2022-2nd-phase\/"},"modified":"2022-04-26T17:30:47","modified_gmt":"2022-04-26T16:30:47","slug":"flad-science-award-atlantic-2022-2nd-phase","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.flad.pt\/en\/flad-science-award-atlantic-2022-2nd-phase\/","title":{"rendered":"FLAD Science Award Atlantic 2022 &#8211; 2nd Phase"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The candidates who were selected in the 1st phase can now complete their candidacy for the largest research award focused on the Atlantic in Portugal, extended to the Social Sciences and Humanities. <\/strong><strong>See below how to apply for the 2nd phase.<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s our goal?<\/p>\n<p>In the context of the strong commitment to Science and Technology that characterizes FLAD, it is important that this research can develop practical results, such as the creation of strategies, engineering, and technologies, that facilitate our understanding and sustainable exploitation of Atlantic ecosystems.<\/p>\n<p>FLAD wants to support and distinguish researchers starting their careers, thus promoting the promising new generation of researchers we have in Portugal, in close collaboration with the main research centers in the US.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key research areas for the 2022 edition<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the 3rd edition of the FLAD Science Award Atlantic, FLAD will recognize the development of research projects through the creation and development of cross-cutting tools and strategic solutions to current and future challenges in the context of human action in the Atlantic.<\/p>\n<p>The award is open to the areas of study of engineering\/technology and environment\/natural sciences, social sciences and humanities.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the future impact of climate change on coastal populations in the Atlantic region with the creation of adaptation and mitigation actions, including citizen participation;<\/li>\n<li>Assess the value of the Atlantic in natural assets and ecosystems, in particular in its contribution to the Blue Economy, using advanced economic analyses and big data;<\/li>\n<li>Technologies to promote healthy and clean oceans by looking at the Atlantic as a natural ecosystem that is an asset;<\/li>\n<li>Sustainable mobility and logistics, in the context of growing digital transformation;<\/li>\n<li>Environmental and energy transition strategies for islands and isolated areas;<\/li>\n<li>New approaches in the planning, observation and management of the Atlantic area, including the preservation of critical ecosystems, making use of observation methods involving low-cost satellite systems, advanced sensor systems, artificial intelligence or data science;<\/li>\n<li>Production of new technologies such as underwater robotics, unmanned shipping, acoustic communications, sensors and data analysis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Award<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The prize has a value of 300,000 euros, for a maximum of 3 years, which corresponds to 100,000\/year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jury<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The evaluation is made by a jury of excellence composed of four elements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Miguel Miranda, Professor at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, and President of IPMA.<\/li>\n<li>Pedro Camanho, Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto, and president of LAETA.<\/li>\n<li>Rui Ferreira dos Santos, Professor at CENSE &#8211; Center for Research in Environment and Sustainability, Faculty of Science and Technology, NOVA University of Lisbon.<\/li>\n<li>Elsa Henriques, Associate Professor at instituto Superior T\u00e9cnico, University of Lisbon, and member of the Executive Board of FLAD.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Candidates selected for the 2nd phase of the FLAD Science Award Atlantic <strong>will have between April 25 and May 25, 2022 <\/strong>to complete their application.
