Pier Kids questions the meaning of community among black LGBT kids in high risk situations. The film centers around a gallery of characters, among whom are Casper, a young homeless kid attracted to transsexuals; Desean, who fearlessly questions how to best escape homelessness and Krystal, who takes to the dance floor as a form of survival. Their common threads converge in the distancing (at times expulsion) from their blood relatives and taking refuge in familial communities or substitute families. Elegance Bratton follows these kids for five years, attempting to understand what it means to be black and queer 50 years after Stonewall. The Cathedral <\/span><\/p>\n
