FLAD, within the framework of the protocol established with Portuguese General Directorate of the Book, Archives and Libraries – National Archive of Torre do Tombo (DGLAB-ANTT), annually promotes short-term research grants to support the promotion of the Portuguese language and culture in the USA.

This program is intended for researchers from universities and/or research center in the United States of America who are interested in studying the funds and documentary collections of the National Archives of Torre do Tombo, in order to develop projects in the context of Portuguese archives administration, history, culture and language.

The grants have a minimum duration of one(1) month and a maximum of three (3) months, provide a monthly allowance of 1,400 euros,and may additionally include the payment of the round trip up to 750 euros, subject to proof of payment. In addition, the research project must be initiated by December 2020.

Each candidate must include in the application:

  • Application form;
  • Curriculum vitae of the candidate;
  • Description of the plan of studies and of the project in which it is integrated;
  • Document proving the link to the University or Institute to which the candidate is associated;
  • Recommendation letters which might be of interest for the assessment of the application;

The evaluation is made by a jury composed of members of FLAD and the DGLAB-ANTT.

The application period runs until April 15th of 2020. Applicants will be notified of the results by April 30th.
