The Luso-American Development Foundation, in partnership with the National Library of Portugal (BNP), promotes an annual program of short-term research grants.

This program aims to stimulate the knowledge of Portuguese history and culture in the USA, as well as to increase scientific and cultural cooperation between the two countries.

The FLAD-BNP grant aims to support research on topics of Portuguese culture based on the collections of the National Library of Portugal (BNP) and is intended for researchers from higher education institutions and/or research centers in the United States of America.

The grants, with a minimum duration of one (1) month and a maximum of (3) months, provides a monthly allowance of 1,400 euros and may additionally include the round trip up to 750 euros, subject to proof of payment.

Each candidate must include in the application:

  • Application form;
  • Curriculum vitae of the candidate;
  • Description of the plan of studies and of the project in which it is integrated;
  • Document proving the link to the University or Institute to which the candidate is associated;
  • Recommendation letters which might be of interest for the assessment of the application;

Once submitted, applications are assessed by a joint committee by representatives of BNP and FLAD.

The application period runs until April 15th of 2020. Applicants will be notified of the results by April 30th.
