(Share with an international student all the best things our country has to offer.)

The Visiting Family Program is a part of the Study in Portugal Network (SiPN) program of the Luso-American Development Foundation.

Study in Portugal Network (SiPN) is a study abroad program designed to attract American university students to study in Portugal. The students will be able to remain in Portugal for a summer, a semester or a full academic year.

Besides this academic experience, SiPN wishes to provide its students with knowledge and contact with the Portuguese culture and traditions.

The Visiting Family Program allows the students to get together with a Portuguese family.

It is also a unique opportunity for visiting families to have a living and cultural experience with young American college students, between the ages of 19 and 24, with fluency in Portuguese from beginner, intermediate or advanced levels.

What does it mean to be a visiting family?

To be a visiting family to a SiPN student is to commit to at least one meeting per month during his/her stay in Portugal. The main purpose will be to share daily habits, customs and traditions with a foreign student.

Communication is the keyword. Once the connection between the student and the family is established, it is expected that both make plans together, this way sharing the responsibility to meet with one another. The range of activities is wide and varied.

What to expect from both parts?

. Invite the student to participate in activities and tours in Lisbon and surrounding areas;
. Invite the student to family and holiday celebrations;
. Allow the student to participate in the family routines;
. Allow the student to visit the workplace of one or more
family members;

. Prepare meals together and teach some vocabulary in
Portuguese and in English;

. An opportunity for the family to practice English and for
the student to learn and practice Portuguese.

If you wish to become a visiting family for the SiPN, please fill out the form and we will contact you.
