FLAD’s mission is to contribute to the country’s economic and social development through cooperation with the USA. Throughout its existence, the Foundation has backed several projects involving scientific institutions, universities, associations, companies and civil society organizations from Portugal and the United States of America.
The original goals and mission behind the creation of FLAD are still valid today, and take shape in the development and support of programs aimed at the economic, commercial, scientific and technological cooperation between Portugal and the United States, in promoting Portuguese language and culture in the U.S. and in the program of development in the Azores.
The work of the Foundation takes shape in the following four strategic areas:
Area 1. Economic and corporate cooperation between Portugal and the USA
Area 2. Scientific and technological cooperation with American entities
Area 3. Development program for the Azores
Area 4. Promotion of the Portuguese language and culture in the USA
FLAD has a staff of 20 people on open-ended contracts, one person on a fixed-term contract and another in commissioned service.
